Maison Margiela Collection

The Maison Margiela FW 2016 collection was filled with vivid

yellow boots and bunched up, oversized dresses held together

with thick belts. Models strutted gracefully down the white

runway, observed by guests and the many photographers.

The most stunning part of the whole show was Pat McGrath’s

makeup. Some models were given fantastically pink brows, like

Anna Cleveland. Cleveland also had on equally bright pink

mascara, which contrasted greatly with her green eyes but also

made her eyes seem hollow.

Others had sparkly, pale lips

outlined with black. Some had no visible makeup, or even

makeup applied to wash out their features. Ajak Deng and Alek

Wek, the two dark skinned models of the show, both had a bright

blue hue applied near their tear ducts, creating their faces to

seem cooler.

Without Pat McGrath’s makeup, it is doubtful that the collection

could have seemed as complete and vivid. The almost extra-

terrestrial looks on the catwalk allowed the pieces in the

collection to flow together, which can seem disconnected if

looking solely at the clothes.
