by Jessica Yu ![]() If you’ve been on the internet for a while, you may have seen funny screencaps of Friends, a show about 6 young adults living in New York in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Spanning 10 seasons, the sitcom follows the daily struggles, drama, and hilarious moments of these individuals that is both hilarious and heartwarming to watch. Having been nominated for 62 Emmy Awards, Friends is an American classic that must be watched! The 6 characters of Friends include a chef, a struggling actor, a paleontologist (who has been both married and divorced 3 times), a masseuse/musician, a businessman, and a waitress, each with complex and diverse backgrounds. These unlikely group of friends hang out at the Central Perk, a coffee house under their apartment building, where they share stories and discuss their problems. A main theme of the show is relationships, as the show highlights single young adults and their struggle to find a stable relationship. The show is very light hearted; there are no suspenseful climaxes, overarching problems, or depressing deaths. Every episode is guaranteed to have hilarious antics and corny jokes. Also, each episode has a problem or situation that is easily resolved by the end of segment. Friends is the kind of show to only bring laughter, and occasionally happy tears.
With so many trending horror, crime, and intense TV shows out there, sometimes you need to watch a laid-back TV show, like Friends, that makes you envy the character’s lives and want to move to New York.
